Big Hole National Battlefield was the site of the largest battle of the Nez Perce War, the Battle of the Big Hole on August 9 and 10, 1877. The last battle of the war, this event left the Nez Pierce tribe wounded and fleeing from American attempts to force them onto a reservation, which happened only months later. At this park, the best feature to see is the visitor center, which features a small museum with displays on the Nez Perce and the battle. There is a short path to walk as well, offering sights of the area where this two-day battle was fought. This site is part of the larger Nez Perce National Historical Park, which contains 38 different units in total, and sits about 10 miles east of the Idaho state border.
